A new tool has been developed to aid researchers in performing ad-hoc operations on seismic data. This tool allows the feature-rich seismic processing environment, ProMAX, to be used in conjunction with a user-friendly numerical computational environment, Matlab. A software gateway is established between the two environments that allows seismic data or database information to flow bidirectionally. This allows for easy development of new seismic processing tools without the need for tedious programming in lower-level languages such as Fortran or C.
