The AVO modelling volume

An AVO modelling scheme is proposed in which we create a 3D volume of modelled CDP gathers by varying two physical parameters, one in the in-line direction, and one in the cross-line direction. This 3D volume is then processed using conventional AVO analysis techniques, and the results are interpreted using time or structure slices. Two illustrative examples are presented, one involving P-wave velocity change versus S-wave velocity change, and the other involving P-wave velocity change versus thickness change. Future research applications will involve the use of this method to map pressure versus saturation changes for the use of AVO methods to determine time-lapse changes in a heavy oil reservoir.
