An industrial laminate is shown to possess elastic anisotropy. The material, Phenolic CE, is composed of thin layers of canvas fabric bonded with a phenolic resin. Ultrasonic physical modeling has been conducted using the phenolic. Different compressional-wave velocities and distinct patterns of shear-wave splitting are observed on each face of a cube of the material, as well on edges of the cube beveled at 45 degrees the adjacent faces. Analysis of the results demonstrate that the phenolic laminate is suitable for modeling media with anisotropy of orthorhombic symmetry.
