Wave mode separation and prestack depth migration of multicomponent data in the presence of topography

Scalar methods for multicomponent data processing require in principle separate wave modes. A method for wave mode separation in the presence of topography is proposed and tested on synthetic seismic data, generated over a complex geology model with a 2D elastic FD method. The resulting data are migrated using two pre-SDM approaches, Kirchoff and PSPI, which also take into account the rough topography. The seismic images obtained show the challenging characteristics of these data; the methods provide insights into approaches that can be rewarding for elastic wave processing in complex settings.
