Designing a new fluid injection model for the physical modelling laboratroy
Kevin L. Bertram, Joe Wong
In 2023 a fluid displacement model was created to simulate the real world injection of fluids such as CO2 into a porous media (Bertram and Wong, 2023). This model worked well demonstrating that it is suitable for 4D acquisition (Bertram and Wong, 2024). This model was designed to have water saturated porous media (glass beads) place in a hollowed out “mound”. This model was then placed in the water tank of the physical model system. After an initial survey over the model was completed air was injected into the porous media via a capillary tube inserted in the side of the model. The difference between an initial water saturated and air filled survey is shown in Figure 1.Although this test was successful, it was determined that this model has several shortcomings that cannot be fixed, so a new model has been created to address these issues.
